João Lobo

João Lobo

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2000. Since 2023, he studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music’s Unidad Editorial Double Bass Chair with professor Wies de Boevé. He has been granted scholarships by Fundación EDP and Fundación Albéniz.

He studied double bass at the Santa Cecilia Academy until 2018, when he entered the Orchestra National Academy where he studied with professor Yury Aksenov. In 2021, he continued his training at the Music School of Lisbon with professors Manuel Rego and Domingos Ribeiro. He has also attended masterclasses by Janne Saksala, Domingos Ribeiro, Luis Cabrera, Gunars Upatnieks, Janusz Widzyk, and Philipp Stubenrauch.

Additionally, he has been part of the Gulbenkian Orchestra of Lisbon with a temporary contract after an audition for a list of substitutes at the end of the 2021-2022 season.

As a student of the School, he has performed with the Freixenet Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Péter Csaba, and he is currently part of the Unidad Editorial Bottesini Double Bass Quartet.
